Rey Langit

  “Kasangga mo ang Langit” this is a line always associated withReynante Magat Langit, or better known as Rey Langit by many. Rey Langit is a veteran broadcaster in the country. He is well known for his unique voice on air. He is a recipient of many different awards including KBP Golden Dove, Catholic Mass Media, and Rotary Club of Manila Journalism to name a few. He is also a chairman of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas-Metro Manila chapter and a board member of the KBP-National.

 

     He is also the Vice President and Station Manager of the DWIZ Am Radio Station and Board of Trustee of the ALIW Broadcasting Corporation. He is also the Chairman of an independent media production house, HIP TV.  

 

     Apart from being a broadcaster, Langit also writes columns for newspapers such as Tempo, Balita, and People’s Tonight. Aside from this, he currently hosts two programs namely “Kasangga Mo Ang Langit” and “Biyaheng Langit” on the national television. His shows helped a lot of Overseas Filipino Workers and he garnered a lot of awards, commendations, and acclamations because of his public service shows.

 

     For his avid listeners on radio, he is known best known as their Pareng Rey or Sky. He was the source of news of millions of Filipinos on air. During the People Power Revolution, he was on air for two days. He refused to go off air despite the fact that broadcasting was being stopped. He reported and updated the public on the whereabouts of the historical event. He was also the first to describe the revolution as “people power”.

 

      He finished his primary education at the F.G. Calderon Elementary School in Manila, then started his secondary education at Manuel L. Quezon University, but finished it at Far Eastern University Boys High School. As for his tertiary education, he took up BS Commerce at Far Eastern University. He also pushed through with Bachelor of Laws at the same university, but only until his sophomore year.

 

     Rey Langit was born on September 20, 1948 in Pampanga to Vidal Calilung Langiy and Ezperanza Patiag Magat Langit. He came from humble beginnings, he experienced selling “kakanin” and comics to his classmates at school in order to pay for his schooling, he also drove a pedicab, and even pulled weeds growing in his Chinese neighbor’s garden for ten centavos a bundle. He is married to Estrellita Dito Langit, a businesswoman, and has two sons, Reynante Langit Jr. and Reyster Langit, who died from Malaria.

 

      He will run under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) party.

 

STANDS ON SOME OF THE PROMINENT POLITICAL ISSUES TODAY

 

  • On same-sex marriage

 

     According to an article published on Rappler, Langit is open “to some kind of rights and responsibilities that are being extended the gay community”, but he believes that “marriage is a sacred bond between a man and woman”.

 

  • On corruption (corrupt airport officials & staff)

                       

     “There should be a thorough investigation and all those who are found to be behind this despicable scam should be put to justice,” said Langit in one of his columns published on Tempo.

 

  • On illegal recruitment

           

     “I believe that there is a need to revisit the law and push for stricter penalties against unscrupulous recruiters who take advantage of hapless would-be OFWs,” wrote by Langit from the same article on Tempo.

           

  • On Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)

 

     Langit’s TV and radio programs mainly focuses on helping OFWs to reach out and ask help from their employers and families.
